Week 6 Previews
Sharks vs Kings @ 9:15 pm
The Sharks and Kings will be firing off first this week as they battle it out in hopes of ranking up. The Kings have shown strong promise over the last few weeks and can pull off a win if the combined efforts of veterans and young stars are supported by solid netminding. As for the Sharks, there is a lot on the line leading to a strong push to grab a dominating win.
Nordiques vs Jets @ 10:15 pm
The Nords are just one point ahead of the Jets and anything can be flipped upside down with this game. The Jets will be looking at grabbing a huge win here to give them a slight advantage in the rankings. That being said, do not count the Nords as an easy opponent. This game will be teetering in balance until the very end.
Week 5 Summaries
Bruins defeat Kings 8-5
The Kings played their first of two this night against the mighty Bruins. Sharks netminder Mohammed Khandwala filling in for Yasir Hussain. The Bruins struck first with a goal from Indy Pabla, equalized minutes later thanks to Emmad Khawaja who is emerging as a strong leader in his group. The Bruins held a slight 4-3 lead at the half thanks to a goal from Moose Khan. The second half saw a pair of goals from Bruin Matinder Dulku, which sealed the win for the Bruins despite a late push from the Kings. Bruins remain a perfect on the season with the 8-5 win.
Jets defeat Sharks 5-4
The Jets took on a depleted Sharks team in a relatively low scoring game. The first period saw a 1-1 tie with both teams taking a very strong defensive stand paired with unlucky bounces all around. The second period saw a pair of goals from the Jets team thanks to Razi Ahmed and Onkar Sandhu. The Sharks managed to keep it close despite a lack of legs but the Jets would take this one 5-4 thanks to the game winner from Natt.
Nordiques defeat Kings 7-6
The Kings played their second of the night against the Nords, who came out blasting with three straight goals thanks to distributed scoring. The Kings pushed back with a pair from Emmad Khawaja. Both teams were tied at 4 each by the end of the period, thanks to a monster game from Khawaja for the Kings. The second half saw the Kings take a 6-4 lead, giving hope to a chance at a first ever win for the Kings. Unlucky for them, however, was the double from Zaheer Kazi, and the game winner from Divesh Sharma for the Nords' 7-6 win. There's always next week...
Week 5 Previews
Bruins vs Kings @ 8:45 pm
The Kings and Bruins will face off first this week in a game that just about everyone has figured out. The Bruins are perfect on the season while the Kings will be looking desperately for their first win. The Kings will be playing the first of two this night, and will need a Hail Mary to get a win.
Sharks vs Jets @ 9:45 pm
The Jets and Sharks are likely to be our game of the night, given their standings and recent game play. This is likely to be a close game as both netminders have been the make or break for the past few games, with a number of one goal games determining the winner.
Nordiques vs Kings @ 10:45 pm
The Jets and Kings will cap the night off in what should be a fun game. The Kings are likely to be the underdog given their first game fatigue, but don't count them out. Expect a more risky and explosive style of play as we wrap up the night.
Week 4 Summaries
Bruins defeat Jets 6-4
The Bruins took on the Jets in a game that has likely cemented notions of both teams for this season. The Jets came out strong with a pair from Nimalan Chandresekara, helping his team lead 3-1 at the half. The second period saw the Bruins take advantage of what was going to be a long night for the Jets, and forced their way to tie the game thanks to Shoaib Khan and Indy Pabla. A pair of goals from GM Suhaib Shaikh would be all that was needed to cement the win and remain undefeated on the season as the Bruins win yet another, 6-4.
Nordiques defeat Sharks 8-7
The Nords and Sharks played what would ultimately end up being our game of the night. Both goalies stood tall and faced an array of shots in this one goal game. Sharks struck first with a goal from Abbas Ammarshi, with the Nords responding with three goals. The Sharks would in turn pummel a trio of their own past netminder Ridwaan Khanji, featuring a pair from Syed Ahmed. Both teams were tied at 4 each at the half. The second half saw a strong game from the Sharks to start, but the Nords closed the deal with four straight second period goals to hold on for the 8-7 win. Syed Ahmed would be rewarded with a penalty shot with few seconds left in the game to tie it, but netminder Khanji stood his ground and sealed the deal for the Nords.
Jets defeat Kings 11-7
The final game of the night saw the Jets take on the Kings. The Kings were optimistic for a win, considering the Jets had been once beaten that night. Onkar Sandhu would open scoring for the Jets, followed closely by an equalizer from Anish Kara. Both teams traded goals back and forth, tying at 4 each at the half thanks to a dual goal effort from Emmad Khawaja. The second half saw a strong effort from the Kings, but the Jets pushed harder with Prateek Johal scoring a second period hat trick. The Jets scored a few very late insurance goals in the last minute to ensure they grabbed one of two wins on the night, 11-7.
