Week 8 Summaries
Hawks defeat Bruins 11-5
The Hawks were seriously undermanned this week against the Bruins, but that did not stop them from wreaking havoc. The Bruins struck first with a goal from Mohammed Saleh, but the Hawks came back with force, outscoring their opponent 6-2 in the first. Zahid Panchbhaya and Shahzad Rana each finished with six points on the night. The second period saw a stronger play by the Bruins, scoring to keep up. That being said, the Hawks kept attacking and jumped to the second spot in the rankings with this win.
Nordiques defeat Jets 10-5
The Nords and Jets faced off in a game that definitely set the tone for the playoffs. The Nordiques were without sniper Syed Ahmed and defensive all star Moose Khan. That didn't stop them from scoring the first five goals of the game, with pairs of goals coming form Divesh Sharma and Fahad Panchbhaya. The lone goal for the Jets that period came from Shoaib Khan. The second period saw a stronger sense of willingness from the Jets, as they added four more goals to the tally, but the Nords met them punch for punch with goals from Prateek Johal and company to win this 9-5. The Nords will go on to face the Bruins in the first round, while the Jets will take on the Hawks.
Week 8 Previews
Hawks vs Bruins @ 9:15 pm
The Hawks are coming off of a very close win and will be looking to keep the momentum going against the Bruins in a bid to being the last place team. With the playoffs just over the horizon, every point counts now to get the standing that will suit each team best.
Jets vs Nordiques @ 10:15 pm
The Nords will be looking to continue their dominance of the league as they take on the Jets this week. The Jets are fuming over a one goal loss last week and will be working that much harder for the win. At this point in the game, it's the Nords on top and quite literally everyone else vying for the second spot.
Week 7 Summaries
Hawks defeat Jets 9-8
The Hawks and Jets played a hell of a game, with both sides missing some key players. The result was two periods full of solid clean hockey. The Hawks struck first with a pair thanks to Zahid Panchbhaya. The Jets fired back with goals from Sufyaan Shaikh, Ricky Saili, and Shoaib Rangrez. Both teams upped the ante in the second period trading goals back and forth. With both teams tied at 8 and just under a minute left in play, GM Mohammed Kazi would be the hero netting home the winning goal, avoiding a shootout.
Nordiques defeat Bruins 14-5
The Nords seemed to happily bounce back after a loss in the previous week and took their anger out on the Bruins. The Bruins were held scoreless in the first period, with netminder Mohammed AK being lit up for 8 Nord goals. Prateek Johal was on fire with five first period goals. The second period saw the Bruins finally get on board with goals from Arif Billa, but it was too little too late as the Nords kept on scoring with Syed Ahmed and Johal netting 6 each for the win. With just one week away from the playoffs, the Nords have solidified their name this season.
Week 7 Previews
Hawks vs Jets @ 9:15 pm
The Hawks and Jets will face off this week, with the Jets coming off of a big win. Ricky Saili has been on fire as of late and will be looking to add to his tally. As for the Hawks, they will need a solid game plan to tackle their opponent head on, which includes having a full roster.
Bruins vs Nordiques @ 10:15 pm
The Bruins and Nordiques will face off next, with the Bruins looking for their second consecutive win. The Nords may have the upper hand if they can show up with a full bench. The Bruins on the other hand will need all hands on deck to shut down the opposing offense.
Week 6 Summaries
Bruins defeat Hawks 5-3
The Bruins and Hawks took to it first this week, with the Hawks missing quite a few key players. The Bruins took full advantage, although it wouldn't seem like it at first. The Hawks struck first thanks to Shahzad Rana, while the Bruins equalized much later in the period from Abdullah Patel. Hawks' netminder Abbas Shaikh stood tall, compensating for the lack of bodies on his team. The second half caught up with the Hawks, who gave up four goals to the Bruins, including a hat trick from Arif Billa. The Bruins walked away with an easy 5-3 win.
Jets defeat Nordiques 10-7
The Jets and Nords faced off next in what could only be described as a hard-fought game. The Nords were without star Pavan Dulai, while the Jets were missing Shoaib Khan. The Nords struck first with a goal from Divesh Sharma, but the Jets had other plans in mind. Ricky Saili led scoring in the first half with two goals and two assists as part of the Jets' six goal effort. Ridwaan Khanji had a pretty solid night, keeping most of the Nord attack at bay. Leading 6-2 going into the second, the Jets were able to maintain the lead despite a strong comeback effort from the Nords. Prateek Johal and Moose Khan would combine for 5 goals in the second, but their effort fell short as the Jets win this one 10-7
