FALL 2017 VERDI CUP CHAMPIONS!
Nordiques edge Sharks 3-2 to Capture Verdi Cup!
Finals MVP: Ridhwan Khanji
This may have been the lowest scoring finals in MMGL history, but that didn’t stop it from being one of the best. The President’s Trophy winning Nordiques took on the ever-hungry Sharks, in a clean physical Finals that was a fan pleaser. The Sharks took to scoring early in the game, with a pair of goals from Fahad Panchbhaya. The referees let the boys play, as there were no powerplays to be utilized this game. The Nords pushed back hard towards the end of the first, and managed to cut the lead in half with a goal from Syed Ahmed. The Sharks held the 2-1 lead going into the half. The second period was far more defensive from both teams, limiting shots to both netminders who kept their teams in the game. At the 9:50 mark in the second, Muzammil Khan would rocket one past netminder Mohamed Bashir to tie the game. Minutes later, Sufyaan Shaikh would complete on the pass from Khan, to put the Nords up 3-2. With time winding down in the game, neither team could muster anything else, as both goalies were on the top of their game. As the clock hit 00:00, the Nordiques would be crowned the Fall 2017 MMGL Champs, taking home quite the collection of silverware!
