Week 7 Summaries
Hawks defeat Jets 11-8
A weary Jets team took on the Hawks who were without netminder Kaleem Mirza, using Ridwaan Khanji as their sub. The game started 4-on-4 for the first little while, with the Hawks quickly getting on the board with goals from Mohammed Kazi and Shoaib Rangrez. Sukhvir Mundi would net a pair and tie things up, giving testimony to the fact that this team is still a legit contender. The Hawks took control of the game later in the half, with a pair of goals from Zahid Panchbhaya and Aziz Patel. Hawks led 7-3 after the first. The second period saw another strong offensive performance from the Hawks. That being said, the Jets slowly inched their way back with a hatty from Mohammed Bhad, closing the gap to 10-7 at one point. Unfortunately, time is only so finite in these games, and the Hawks had built up enough of a lead to walk away with the 11-8 win. The Hawks leapfrog to first place, holding a one point lead over the next two teams.
Bruins defeat Falcons 3-2
The Bruins made a last minute trade in hopes of it trading off for some late season wins. They got off to a good start against the Falcons with two first period goals thanks to Faizan Kazi. Netminder Mohammed AK Patel looked more true to previous form, and started paying dividends in defense. The Falcons cut the lead in half late in the first with a goal from Abdul Manjra. Bruins led 2-1 after the first in a low scoring but eventful half. The second period saw the Falcons tie things up with a goal from Maaz Panchbhaya, and we got ourselves a game going with both goalies holding it down. The eventual game winner would come from Bruins’ Abdullah Patel, at the 9:35 mark in the second period. Hats off to the Bruins team for holding it down defensively to kill the clock, and walking away with a hard-earned win
Nordiques defeat Sharks 15-5
And the Nords took on the Sharks in the final match up of the night, which absolutely stunned the fans. The Sharks struck first with a goal from Fahad Panchbhaya, signalling another strong night by the finned team. However, the Nords had other plans in mind as they went on to score six straight in the first, featuring pairs of goals from Syed Ahmed and Shoaib Khan. Before the first period was up, the Nords were leading 8-3 on a strong performance from their offensive line. The second period saw a continued onslaught by Captain Khan, pestering netminder Badger for another two quick goals. Abraar Gangat would also net a second period hat trick as the Sharks get riled two weeks in a row, delivering only two goals in the second period. Nords win this one easily, 15-5, and are now tied for second place with the Sharks
Week 7 Previews
Hawks Vs Jets @ 8:45 pm
Moving on to Week 7, the Jets will try yet again to get a win, this time against a Hawks team that is on fire. The Hawks handed the Sharks their first loss of the season last week and will be looking to grab the top spot in the league before the season is over. The Jets road to a win only seems to be getting more difficult.
Falcons Vs Bruins @ 9:45 pm
The Falcons will take on the Bruins next, with the Bruins having said goodbye to Erfan Bhanapatel. Perhaps this last minute trade will give the Bruins the edge they need to get back to winning ways. The Falcons, on the other hand, have been consistent and pose a threat as a serious playoff contender.
Sharks Vs Nordiques @ 10:45 pm
And finally, we have the Nords going up against the Sharks. The mental edge the Sharks had is now gone, having been defeated for the first time last week. As for the Nords, several defensive gaps have been identified that will need to be patched up. Will be interesting to see how that plays out.
Week 6 Summaries
Nordiques defeat Bruins 8-7
The Nords and Bruins went at it Friday night, in a game that took quite the unexpected turn late on. The Bruins struck first with a goal from Zaheer Kazi, but the Nordiques shut them down and absolutely dominated the first period. Syed Ahmed and company totalled for 5 first period goals, leading by a comfortable margin at the end of the first. The Nords brought more heat in the second with another pair of goals from Shoaib Khan and Ahmed, leading 7-1. And that's when it started, the Bruins comeback that no one saw coming. Faizan Kazi led the rally, with a hat trick as part of a six goal effort to tie the game with 20.2 seconds left on the clock! With all eyes on the Nords, they didn't buckle under the pressure and Sid Ahmed would net the game winner with 5.8 seconds left to play. An absolute heart breaker for the Bruins, who will need to make some changes.
Hawks defeat Sharks 9-6
The Hawks took on the undefeated Sharks in a game to remember. The Hawks came on strong, leading with three goals thanks to a team effort featuring Jalil Shaikh, Arif Hansold, and Aziz Patel. The Sharks soon rallied to tie with goals from Yusuf Ingar, Huzeifa Patel, and Shahrukh Shah. Both teams would trade one more goal, leading to an even playing field in the second. Hanslod and Shaikh went back to work in the second, building a two goal lead for the Hawks. Fahad Panchbhaya would bring it within one for the Sharks, but the Hawks would not relent as they added three more to their total, giving them the 9-6 win and the Sharks their first loss of the season.
Falcons defeat Jets 12-11
Our final game of the night, with the Falcons and Jets both using subs for their goalies. Aziz Patel was the man between the pipes for the Jets, while Khizar Shahzad took the reigns for the Falcons. The Falcons struck first with a goal from Muaz Bharucha, and the Jets tied minutes later. Both teams traded goals back and forth, which was surprising given the Jets depleted bench. The Falcons led 7-6 after the first, giving hope to the Jets for a possible win. The second period saw the Falcons build a lead with goals from Abdul Manjra and Huzaifa Panchbhaya. Determined not to lose, Ricky Saili netted a few goals to keep the score close, but the Falcons walked away with the 12-11 win, a game they should have won from the get go. Jets remain winless on the season at 0-6.
