Week 5 Summaries

Falcons defeat Nordiques 6-5

The Nords and Falcons went at it in an intense game. This was really fast and physical hockey, the kind that really got the fans going. Abraar Gangat would strike first for the Nords, followed by a strong Falcons push of four straight goals. GM Abdul Manjra would be responsible for a pair of those. GM Khan would manage to sneak one in before half to cut the lead to two. Muzammil Khan would score the next goal of the game to bring it down to the wire, with the Nords firing on all pistons. With time winding down, Huzaifa Panchbhaya would net his only goal of the night to give the 5-3 lead. That being said, the Falcons got a penalty in the last two minutes of play and the Nords were hounding them 5-4, aiming to tie. Goalie Fayaz Kazi would be the hero, playing his heart out to preserve the win. Falcons win 5-4.

Sharks defeat Jets 12-11

The hungry Jets took on the undefeated Sharks in a game no one saw coming. The Sharks struck first, as expected, with a a goal from Anish Kara. The Jets, however, came to play and put up 5 first period goals, featuring a hat trick from GM Ricky Saili. The second period saw more Jets fury as they led 10-5 at the 13 minute mark. Ricky Saili was adamant on a win, with 6 goals on the night. With time winding down, it looked like the Sharks were going to be handed their first loss, in an absolutely poetic fashion. With 6 minutes to go, Yusuf Ingar went on the offensive and scored 4 straight goals to tie the game! With just 9.8 seconds left on the clock, Shahrukh Shah would be the hero sniping one past the Jets netminder for the absolutely heartbreaking 12-11 win. A shame for the Jets is all I can say.

Hawks defeat Bruins 4-2

To cap the night off, the Bruins took on a depleted Hawks team. With only six active players, the Hawks played their legs off, scoring the first three goals of the game thanks to Aziz Patel (2) and Shoaib Rangrez. The lone goal for the Bruins in that period would come from Erfan Bhanapatel. At this point the game was already won, with Rangrez adding a second period goal for insurance. The Bruins only managed to get two goals past netminder Kaleem Mirza, prompting speculation there will be some heavy trades coming soon.

The Falcons will take on the Nordiques in an attempt to even things up in the standings. The Falcons are coming off of a devastating loss, signalling the need for more firepower while the Nords are doing everything by the book to remain a top contender.

Jets Vs Sharks @ 9:45 pm

The winless Jets will take on the 4-0 Sharks, in a game that we all feel we know will result to be. That being said, the MMGL is notorious for upsets and this may just as well be the biggest one. Best wishes to the Jets squad who have shown promise but just cannot finish as of yet.

Hawks Vs Bruins @ 10:45 pm

And finally, the Bruins will look to grab a win against the Hawks. The Bruins have most certainly showed promise this season, and a few tweaks here and there can mean night and day for this team. As for the Hawks, they've gotten into a smooth rhythm and do not look like they will be going out of sync anytime soon.

The Falcons cut the lead in half before period end with a goal from GM Abdul Manjra. With the second period starting, the Falcons tied the game with their second and last goal of the night. From here on out, they struggled to get past the Hawks defence and netminder Kaleem Mirza. The Hawks barraged the Falcons with goal after goal, totalling 7 in the second half. Aziz Patel and Zahid Panchbhaya both netted a pair in a 9-2 routing of the Falcons. Have the Hawks made a statement on what is to come further in the season?

Nordiques defeat Jets 9-6

The Jets faced the Nords in the last game of the night, desperately seeking a win. They kicked things off right with a goal from Muaz Bharucha, only to have the Nords net a pair minutes later thanks to Abraar Gangat. The Jets’ Bharucha managed to tie things up, eventually netting a hat trick to give his team the 4-3 first period lead. The Nords took control in the second period, dashing away any hopes the Jets had for a first win. Gangat completed his hat trick, along with a pair of goals from Sufyaan Shaikh. A six goal second period propelled the Nords to a convincing 9-6 win. The Jets will need to come up with some changes real quick if they want to turn this season around soon.
