Week 10 Summaries

Jets defeat Bruins 9-8

The Jets and Bruins kicked things off in a game that looked so much more different than the final score. The Bruins were without a goalie for the first half and the Jets took advantage with a 7 goal first period. Aziz Patel was absolutely lethal with owning 4 of those goals, while the Bruins managed to save some face with two goals of their own. With a netminder finally in place in the second period, the Bruins rallied to attempt a comeback. Jr Rana and Sohel Ingar would both score to cut the lead to three, before Aziz netted his fifth of the night. The Bruins scored another three thanks to a team effort, but their efforts fell short as the Jets' Fahad Panchbhaya would score the game winner at the 7:20 mark. Great hustle, but no points, as the Jets win this one 9-8. Jets and Bruins both finish 5-5 on the season, with the Jets on top holding the extra point.

Hawks defeat Nordiques 10-7

The Nords and Hawks faced off next in a solid game, enshrining what the MMGL is all about. The Nords struck first with a pair of goals thanks to Sadik Patel and Ismail Patel. The Hawks pushed back heavily with a six goal barrage, thanks to efforts from Yusug Ingar and Zaheer Kazi. Suhaib Shaikh would have the late first period goal to trail by three. Moving into the second, both teams traded goals back in forth, displaying what playoff hockey could look like. Unfortunately for the Nords, they were without Sr Rana and lacked that extra bit of offensive push. The Hawks won this one 10-7, leaving the Nords to finish 2-8 on the season for last place.

Sharks defeat Falcons 11-7

The Sharks and Falcons capped off the regular season in the battle for first place. The Sharks had a full squad while the Falcons were without Muaz Bharucha. The Sharks took advantage and scored six straight to start (dominate) the game. There was absolutely no life in the Falcons squad until much later on in the game. Fayaz Bhayat had four first period goals, while Ricky Saili netted a pair of his own. The lone Falcons goal in this period came from Umar Panchbhaya. The Falcons had some more luck in the second with a regroup, scoring 7 second period goals, including a stellar night from Huzzy Panchbhaya. Unfortunately, this was too little too late as the Sharks added some security goals to win this one 11-8. And with that, the Falcons lose top spot to the Sharks, who are also 7-3 on the season with 15 points, but win on goal differential.

Week 10 Previews

Welcome to the last week of the regular season, with the Bruins and Jets kicking things off. A win by the surging Jets can have them take the third spot, knocking down their opponent Bruins to 4th place. There is a lot riding on this game, especially considering the Jets are looking to establish themselves as a true contender in the playoffs.

Hawks Vs Nordiques @ 9:45 pm

The Nords and Hawks will battle it out next in the battle for last place. The Nords can tie for points with a win over the Hawks, while a win for the Hawks means saving face on the season. It is still a toss up as to who they could be facing next week, and could affect their gameplay decisions.

Falcons Vs Sharks @ 10:45pm

And finally, the battle for the President's Trophy. The first place Falcons will take on the Sharks, who will look to snatch away first place at the last minute. It does not get more exciting than this folks, be sure to show up and find out how our playoffs will be structured!

Week 9 Summaries

Sharks defeat Hawks 14-7

The Hawks and Sharks kicked things off with a game that was unexpectedly one-sided. Both teams brought their full bench, but the Sharks dominated with 8 first period goals to the Hawks' 4. Just about every player had put points up on the night, with Zahid Panchbhaya collecting a first period pair. The Hawks got on the board late with a pair of goals from Shahrukh Shah. Unfortunately for them, there was no defence helping out netminder Mohammed Bashir, who consistently faced odd man rushes. The second period was more of the same as the Sharks netted 6 more to the Hawks' 3, including a hat trick from Syed Ahmed. The Sharks secure second place overall and win this one admittedly easy 14-7. As for the Hawks, playoffs are around the corner; better shape up!

Jets defeat Falcons 6-4

The Falcons and Jets faced off next, with the Jets missing Shoaib Khan yet again. The Falcons were without young star Umaar Panchbhaya. That being said, both teams put up a pretty good even fight. The Falcons' Faizan Kazi would net the first goal of the game, followed shortly thereafter by Aziz Patel for a first period hat trick. It goes without saying Patel has been critical to the Jets' success. Huzzy Panchbhaya would net one before period end to cut the lead to one. The second period saw a fourth goal from Aziz Patel, and the eventual game winner from Fuad Kazi. The Jets walk away with another win, 6-4. Things just got interesting...

Bruins defeat Nordiques 7-2

And finally the Nords and Bruins faced off in what could easily be written off as a bad memory. The Bruins dominated both periods, with the Nords failing to net a goal until 5 minutes left in the game. Jr Rana was an absolute beast with 4 goals on the night, including a second period hat trick. The Nords managed to save face with two goals at the very end thanks to Sr Rana and Abdullah Panchbhaya. The Bruins shut down the Nords offence otherwise and won this one 7-2.

Week 9 Previews

Sharks Vs Hawks @ 8:45 pm

The Sharks and Hawks will battle things out first this week, with the Sharks coming off of a big win, while the Hawks will be looking to gain one. The Sharks have established their dominance as one of the top teams in the league, while the Hawks are still struggling to win over supporters. If there was any time to do it, this game is the one.

Jets Vs Falcons @ 9:45 pm

The Jets and Falcons face off next with both teams coming off of huge wins. The Falcons are likely to finish first in the league, while the Jets are making a strong late season push to climb up the ranks. If there is one team that I am now confident in beating the Falcons, it's the new-energy Jets.

Bruins Vs Nordiques @ 10:45pm

And to cap the night off, the Bruins and Nordiques will fight to the finish. The Bruins sit at third with a shaky 4-4 while the Nords hope to grab a few pity points. That being said, we've seen many times in the past teams from the dungeon come out with a vengeance in the playoffs. Who am I to judge?
