Week 8 Summaries
Sharks defeat Nordiques 8-7 SO
The first game of the night went to the Sharks and Nords, with both teams fighting to prove a point. The Nords struck first with a pair thanks to Sr Rana and Sukhvir Mundi. The Sharks struck back with a triple from Jason Gogna, Zahid Panchbhaya, and Ricky Saili. Both teams traded goals in clusters, with scoring coming from a variety of players. Nords led 5-2 going into the half. The second half saw scoring from the Sharks with a pair thanks to Ricky Saili and Syed Ahmed, and the Nords desperately fought back to tie it in the dying minutes at 7 a piece. Sr Rana's last goal of the night would be the trigger that forced this game to a shootout, where Kaleem Mirza would emerge the hero; making incredible saves to get his team the extra point. Sharks win this contest 8-7.
Falcons defeat Bruins 4-3
The game of the night had to have gone to the Bruins and Falcons, who both came ready to play with full squads. The Bruins dominated the first period with the only two goals, coming from Jr Rana and Shoaib Rangrez. The Falcons kept their defence tight in the second period and managed to tie things up with goals from Zahid Patel Muaz Bharucha. The Bruins caught a break with the powerplay, but their defensive lapses led to the Falcons scoring two shorthanded goals back to back from Huzzy Panchbhaya and Faizan Kazi. The last minute goal from Jr Rana would not be enough to make it up as the Falcons win this one in a thriller 4-3.
Jets defeat Hawks 14-6
The Jets and Hawks finished the night off in one of our best games of the season yet. The Jets struck first with a goal from Fuaad Kazi, before the Hawks equalized with a goal from Safwaan Patel. The Jets brought a full squad finally, and showed what they were truly capable of with four straight goals (Aziz Patel hattrick) before the Hawks scored their second from Yusuf Ingar. The Jets led an astonishing 7-3 going into the second and kept the momentum going with Aziz Patel scoring 7 on the night! The Hawks had a late rally with goals from Patel, Ingar, and Shah but it was too little too late as Shoaib Khan completed his hat trick to win this 14-6. We talkin' bout practice??
Week 8 Previews
Sharks Vs Nordiques @ 8:45 pm
Getting into the last few games of the season, the pressure is on now for teams to perform. The Sharks and Nords will kick things off this week. The Sharks are looking to regain some ground in the points column, while the Nordiques will be fighting to stay out of the bottom. With three games left to play, anything is possible.
Bruins Vs Falcons @ 9:45 pm
The Bruins and Falcons will be up next, with both teams having strong chances of getting a bye week. The Bruins will need their full roster if they hope to stand a fighting change against the Falcons, who sit atop the standings quite comfortably.
Jets Vs Hawks @ 10:45pm
And finally, the Jets and Hawks will cap things off. The Jets came off with a big win last week, showing what they are truly capable of. They have the potential to move out of the basement with a win, and tie in the standings with the Hawks. A lot can happen in three weeks.
Week 7 Summaries
Falcons defeat Hawks 7-6 SO
The Falcons and Hawks faced off in what would ultimately be our game of the night. With so much riding on this game, it was no surprise that both goalies and big guns showed up and ready to play. The Hawks struck first with a goal from Yusuf Ingar, who was determined to get the win. The score equalized a minute later with a goal from Huzzy Panchbhaya. The Hawks led 2-1 minutes later thanks to a Yusuf Ingar effort, but the Falcons piled on three straight thanks to Huzzy Panchbhaya (hat trick) and Faizan Kazi. The Hawks managed to cut the lead to one with a late period goal from young star Zaheer Kazi. The second period saw a strong Hawks start with three consecutive goals via distributed scoring. The Falcons pushed through late in the game and Muaz Bharucha would be the hero that would tie it and send both teams to shootout. Abdullah Patel would be the hero, giving the Falcons the win and another week atop the standings.
Sharks defeat Bruins 9-6
The Sharks and Bruins faced off next, with the Sharks starting strong scoring four goals. These came courtesy of Jason Gogna, Fayaz Bhayat, and Ricky Saili (2). The Bruins were without Jr Rana and it showed. They managed to get one goal on the board in the first thanks to Shoaib Rangrez. Sharks led 5-1 at the half thanks to a Ricky Saili hat trick. Syed Ahmed would add to this lead in the second with a pair of his own before the Bruins attempted to stage their comeback. Secondary scoring chippied in with four straight goals including goals from Sohel Ingar and Muhammad Iqbal. Unfortunately, this was too little too late as the Sharks added two more insurance goals to win this one comfortably 9-6.
Jets defeat Nordiques 7-6
And finally, the Jets and Nords faced off, with the Jets finally having their core group of players show up for once. The Jets struck first with a goal from Shoaib Khan, with the Nords equalizing seconds later from GM Sufyaan Shaikh. Both teams traded goals back and forth in a very clean game. The Nords led 4-3 at the half thanks to a last minute goal from Abdullah Panchbhaya. The second period saw a strong breakout by the Jets, with four straight goals to claim the 3 goal lead. The Nords fought back with goals from Ismail Patel and Sr Rana, but their effort fell short as the Jets held on for the 7-6 win.
Week 7 Previews
Falcons Vs Hawks @ 8:45 pm
The 5-1 Falcons will take on the 3-3 Hawks this week. The Falcons are adamant on winning the top spot this season and have put up the points to make that apparent. That being said, expect a strong game the Hawks squad as the likes of Yusuf Ingar and Abdul Manjra will be out on the hunt for points.
Bruins Vs Sharks @ 9:45 pm
The 4-2 Bruins will take on the 3-3 Sharks in a game that could see both teams swap spots in the rankings. The Sharks are coming off a big win and may be reeling a bit too high, as the Bruins are not a team to be underestimated. They have an elite level goalie in Ridwaan Khanji and the motivational factor to leapfrog to first place.
Jets Vs Nordiques @ 10:45 pm
It's the battle of the basement with the Jets and the Nords, although the standings do not tell the full story. The Jets have been plagued by poor attendance while the Nords have individual talent not translating into team effort. Expect an interesting game from these two, as there is still time to make up lost ground.
