Week 1 Previews

Bruins vs Sharks @ 8:45pm

The Faisal Limbada led Bruins will take on the Zakaria Manjra Sharks in the very first game of our 2017 Winter Season. The Bruins boast young blood in their offence with names like Rahman Rana, Maaz Panchbhaya, and Mohammed Suleman. Netminder Ridwaan Khanji will be back at it to build off of last season's successes and aim for a cup. As for the Sharks, this is a more seasoned team with names like Ricky Saili, Syed Ahmed, and Joe Bruno. Netminder Kaleem Mirza will be the one holding it down for the team, holding his head higher just a bit higher than everyone else.

Nordiques vs Jets @ 9:45pm

The Sufyaan Shaikh led Nords will take on the Fahad Panchbhaya Jets in a game that should help distinguish where both teams fare in terms of the competition. The Nords will rely on Shahir Shaikh to pull them through as he mans the net, while Sr Rana and company are expected to get the offence going. As for the Jets, Mohammed AK will be netminding while Shoaib Khan and Abdul Manjra are expected to dictate play.

Hawks vs Falcons @ 10:45pm

The Hawks led by Shahrukh Shah will take on the Zahid Patel Falcons in our final game of Week 1. The Hawks boast Mohammed Bashir in net, while capitalizing on distributed scoring and a mixed roster of old and new. As for the Falcons, they are the youngest team in the league and this could be a double-edged sword coming down later in the season. Musa Bhoola will be the man between the pipes and will be the core to this team's defence.

GM PREVIEWS

Taking over as the face of the Hawks, Shahrukh Shah has high hopes in attaining MMGL success this season. There is no doubt this young star has shown maturity and promise in the past few seasons. Taking on the GM role only seems fitting at this point in the game. This season will be witness to whether or not he is a natural born leader, aiming to push his defence first methodology.

Faisal brings forth this season years of experience as a player and a head start in the GM game. He's opted to draft with a mix of true and tested along with some new blood. This seems typical of his leadership style, building in some contingency for a rainy day. We are betting that this team will have greater cohesion much sooner in the season than others.

Zak Manjra brings forth the most mystery in terms of draft picks and strategy. His aloof attitude has analysts struggling to figure out what direction the team is planning to take, and whether or not this will be a defence-first team. That being said, the team looks like it will mesh well and provide an easier road to success than other GMs may have to tread.

Fahad Panchbhaya brings a new flavour to the GM game, given his history as a player, leader, and long-serving member of the injured list. This has been reflected in his draft picks, who each bring their own specialities to the game. While it may look great on paper, this strategy has been known to fail in the past. We look forward to seeing how the Jets GM will mitigate this risk.

Sufyaan Shaikh is no stranger to the GM game, and has been steadily building his resume.  There is no doubt his team brings forth a suspected sense of consistency, although risks remain, as is the case with every team. Analysts expect this will be the season Shaikh has a breakout in terms of stepping up to the plate and taking control when needed.

Zahid Patel is no stranger to the league, and consistently draws attention to his potential. Known to be one for analytics and numbers, he has surprisingly drafted a team that looks offence heavy, with an emphasis on run and gun play. We look forward to the decisions he will have to make when it's crunch time and issues related to absenteeism, discipline, and fatigue set in.
