Week 8 Summaries
Nordiques defeat Falcons 8-7
The Nords and Falcons kicked things off Friday night and put on a great display of skill and the burning desire to claim top ranking. The Nords struck first with a goal from Syed Ahmed, before Yusuf Ingar would tie it for the Falcons. Both teams traded goals back and forth, with the Nords gaining the upper hand leading 5-3 going into the break. Goalie Mohamed Bashir was on top of his game as things got heated in the second with a strong Falcons comeback thanks to distributed scoring. With the clock ticking down and both teams tied at 7 each, Muhammad Dippy Patel would be the hero with a late game winner. The Nords killed off the last minute of the game, managing to stave off a push for SO, and claiming second place in search of first.
Jets defeat Sharks 11-4
The Sharks and Jets battled it out in the battle of the basement. The Sharks struck first with a pair of goals, supporting goalie Kaleem Mirza who returned after a two week hiatus. The time off seemed pretty apparent as the Jets pounced on him with six straight unanswered goals, featuring pairs from Jason Gogna, Vik Sailim and Sufyan Shaikh. The second period saw more of a Jets onslaught with 5 additional goals; a very big night for Gogna finishing with 7 goals. The Sharks saved some face with a pair of goals late but the game was already over in the first. Jets win this one 11-4 to leapfrog into fourth place. As for the Sharks, there is nothing to say except forget it and get ready for next week.
Hawks defeat Bruins 10-6
The Hawks and Bruins played a game that many felt should have had a different outcome. The Hawks started strong with three straight thanks to shared scoring. The Bruins would cut in with a pair of goals thanks to Mhajor Gill and Safwaan Patel, playing some very impressive hockey. The Hawks though it seemed had lady luck on their side as they netted another four (Rahman Rana hattrick) before period end. The Hawks led 7-4 starting the second while the Bruins worked hard to bring the game back within one. Their efforts fell short as goalie Ridwaan Khanji stood tall against every offensive advance, leaving his superstars Rana and Huzzy to seal the deal for the 10-6 win. Hawks remain atop the standings and look to defend it next week against the Nords.
Week 8 Previews
Falcons vs Nordiques @ 8:45pm
Week 8 is here with the Nords and Falcons battling it out in battle for top spot. Both teams have a chance to grab top spot if lady luck favours them. The Nords will definitely be reeling for a win as they feel it was snatched away from them last week. As for the Falcons, offense seems to be at an all time high; it's all systems go. Should be a fun one to watch.
Sharks Vs Jets @ 9:45pm
The Sharks and Jets face off next with little at stake here. The Jets will be pushing for a mid tier standing by end of season, while the Sharks just need to sort themselves out. Expect GM Ricky Saili to take the lead on this one. As a reminder to all players, physical altercations and foul language will not be tolerated.
Hawks Vs Bruins @ 10:45pm
And finally, the Hawks and Bruins will take the stage. I still have hope in the Bruins, as on paper they are an offensive-capable team and have a solid netminder. GM Suhaib Shaikh is expected to take a stronger leadership stance and sort out his team. As for the Hawks, the pressure is on now to maintain top spot as other teams are waiting to pounce on their failure.
Week 7 Summaries
Hawks defeat Jets 6-5
The Hawks and Jets battled this one out in a game that was crowned Game of the Night. The Jets struck first with a goal from GM Ricky Saili, equalized minutes later by Muhammad Iqbal. Both netminders, Fayaz Bhayat and Ridwaan Khanji were definitely on point as the clock trickled down to 00:00, with a first period tie of 1-1. The second period saw more goal scoring that saw back and forth action, including pairs from Huzaifah Panchbhaya and Abu Patel. With the game dying down into the final minutes, Rahman Rana took charge and scored two goals to effectively seal the deal and win this one for his team 6-5. The Hawks sit atop the standings while the Jets maintain second to last.
Falcons defeat Bruins 11-3
The Bruins and Falcons faced off in a game that was lopsided, signalling trouble for one team this deep into the season. The Falcons opened up on a scoring tirade with three goals from Yusuf Ingar, Fuaad Kazi, and Sufyan Kazi. The Bruins managed to get a lone period goal from Safwaan Patel, but netminder AK was taking a beating as his team was essentially invisible on defense. The second period was more of the same as Ingar finished with 4 goals on the night. Falcons won this 11-3, even without the help of GM Abdul Manjra. Sitting at 5-2 on the season, they are vying for that top seeding, which is very much within their grasp.
