Week 7 Previews

Hawks vs Jets @ 8:45pm

The Jets will face the Hawks first this week, with both teams trying to bounce back from a loss. It goes without saying lucky bounces have not been in favour of the Jets this season, who sit near the bottom of the table, even though they boast a considerable offense. The Hawks too have stumbled into a bit of a slump, relinquishing that top spot. Expect a heavy determination from both sides going in.

Falcons vs Bruins @ 9:45pm

The Bruins and Falcons face off next, with a potential for the Bruins to hit a 3 game losing streak if things are not fixed on the defensive end. Their strong start to the season has fizzled, and so has the players' commitment to hustling for a win. As for the Falcons, they've shown the resilience required to push through this half of the season. A win for them can potentially boost them to second place in the standings.

Sharks vs Nordiques @ 10:45pm

Our game of the night has to go to the Sharks and Nords. The Sharks were an absolute force last week and will be looking to build on that success. Disciplined play seemed to be the key to their success last week. As for the Nords, a 5 game win streak is no fluke. Consistency in play has yielded strong results for this team as they aim to remain atop the standings.

Week 6 Summaries

Nordiques defeat Bruins 9-2

The Nords and Bruins kicked things off on Friday, and put on one of the most lopsided shows we've seen to date. The Nords had complete dominance from first ball drop, blanking the Bruins in the first period with 5 goals thanks to a hat trick from Syed Ahmed. The Bruins had poor, if any, possession and had to regroup for a stronger second period. The Nords scored their sixth of the night thanks to Maaz Panchbhaya before the Bruins managed to get on the board with a goal from Shahrukh Shah. This game was already long over, with netminder Mohamed Bashir playing a near-perfect game. The Nords win this one in emphatic fashion 9-2. This win bumps them up to 5-1 for first place, facing the new look Sharks next week. Should be an interesting one...

Sharks defeat Hawks 16-6

The Sharks and Hawks battled next in a game that no pundit saw coming. The Hawks scored first with a goal from Abdullah Panchbhaya, soon to be tied up with a goal from Moin Patel. The Hawks would score only once more in the period (Jr Rana) before the Sharks went on an offensive tirade. They scored six straight, including pairs from Moin Patel and Sadik Patel for the 7-2 first period lead. The Sharks played an uncharacteristic disciplined game with no penalty minutes from Shadab Patel. Yes, I can't believe it either. The second half was equally as brutal with Moin Patel scoring another pair, and Aziz Patel finishing off with 4 of his own for the 16-6 rout of the Hawks. The last place Sharks got their first win against the first place Hawks, sending a very strong message for the remainder of the season. Hawks are 4-2 for second place now.

Falcons defeat Jets 12-11 SO

And our game of the night goes to the Falcons and Jets, for being the most balanced. The Falcons got off to a strong start with three straight thanks to Sufyaan Kazi (2) and Zaheer Kazi. The Jets got on board with a goal from Ricky Saili, but the Falcons added two more to their tally. The first period with Falcons leading 5-2, capitalizing on two Jets' penalties. The second period saw the Jets crawl back within one thanks to a Zahid Panchbhaya and Jason Gogna scoring effort. Both teams traded goals back and forth, until the Falcons took back to back penalties late in the second. The Jets are down by one, and capitalize with three straight goals thanks to Panchbhaya, V Saili, and Bruno! Jets lead 11-9 with 2:44 left in the game. Rookie Zaheer Kazi would step up to bring the game within one with 1:10 left to play. GM Abdul Manjra would tie it for the Falcons with 37 seconds left to force a shootout! The Jets, having fought this far, could not muster anything beyond netminder Mohammed Ingar, while the Falcons' lone winning goal came from Zahid Patel. Falcons win 12-11 SO.

Week 6 Previews

Nordiques vs Bruins @ 8:45pm

The second place Nords will take on the 2-3 Bruins in our first game of the night this week. Expect the Nords to put up a very strong fight as they have been on a roll thus far, showcasing their offensive strength. As for the Bruins, they've been handed a few unlucky bounces this season and will be aiming to make a huge statement by going for a win this week.

Hawks vs Sharks @ 9:45pm

The last place Hawks will take on the first place Hawks in a game that many hope will provide something against the obvious. The Sharks just cannot get lady luck on their side, but they are a team that definitely match up against the style of play of the Hawks. As for the Hawks, keep on doing what you're doing because it seems to be working...very well.

Jets vs Falcons @ 10:45pm

And finally the Falcons and Jets will provide some even gameplay. Both teams are in the race for a mid-level standing. These are the teams we've seen that will cause at least one upset during the playoffs and my money is on the Falcons, assuming they can take care of their goaltending liabilities.
