Week 2 Summaries
Hawks defeat Sharks 8-6
The Sharks and Hawks kicked things off, with the Sharks missing netminder Mohamed Bashir. Aziz Patel stepped up to the challenge and held it down as the Sharks scored 4 goals to start, thanks to Shadab Patel, Sadik Patel, Musa Bhoola, and Moin Patel. The Hawks pushed back with their head finally in the game thanks to GM Huzzy and company to cut the lead to 5-4 after one period. The second half saw more controlled play from the Hawks as Huzzy Panchbhaya would dominate with a second period hat trick. This is partially thanks to the Sharks' penalty trouble, leading them to get very chippy towards the end. Hawks win this one 8-6. A strict reminder to all players the MMGL will NOT tolerate unruly behaviour and physical outbursts.
Nordiques defeat Bruins 7-6 SO
The Nords and Bruins faced off next in a much cleaner game of skill from both sides. Special shout out to both goalies Mohammed AK Patel and Kaleem Mirza for a valiant display of athleticism. The Nords jumped quick onto the scoreboard with a pair of goals thanks to Faizan Kazi and Aziz Patel. The Bruins would cut the lead in half with a goal from Huzeifa Patel. Both teams traded goals back and forth with the Nords holding onto the one goal lead, 5-4. The second period saw the Bruins take control and score back to back goals on Mirza thanks to sleeper pick Mhajor Gill for the 6-5 lead. The Nordiques could just not get anything to stick beyond netminder AK, including a potential tying goal at 1:15 that was deemed no goal by the refs. With 25 seconds left the Bruins take a shot to seal the deal but it bounces off the post and goes the other way with Aziz Patel tying the game at 0:13.5! This game goes to 6 rounds of shootout with rookie Abraar Gangat scoring the only goal to win it for the Nords 7-6(SO)!
Falcons defeat Jets 7-3
And to wrap up the night we had the Falcons and Jets. The Falcons started strong with a trio of goals thanks to GM Abdul Manjra, Abu Patel, and Karan Bagga. The Jets caught a break when Falcons netminder Abbas Shaikh was injured and had to leave the game (and perhaps season) due to a shoulder injury. Ridwaan Khanji would sub in to finish the game and the Jets quietly creeped back to tie with goals from Jason Gogna (2). With all that said and done, the Falcons regrouped and pushed back to score four unanswered to win the game 7-3. Special mention to rookie Zaheer Kazi on the late game goal. The Jets will need to regroup as they are in the unfamiliar 0-2 position and find some chemistry quick. Wishing Abbas Shaikh a speedy and full recovery.
