Week 1 Summaries

Bruins defeat Sharks 6-3

Kicking things off this season were the Sharks and Bruins led by Faizan Kazi and Faisal Limbada respectively. The Bruins struck first thanks to a goal from Vasim Kagzi, who made his MMGL comeback known. Minutes later the Sharks would double up with goals from Musa Bhoola and Muzammil Khan. Zabir Khannat of the Bruins would tie the game up before period end to give us a stalemate at two a piece. Moving on into the second half, the Bruins came out strong with an absolute shutdown of the Sharks offense as Senior Rana (Shahzad) was out of the picture. With the score tied at three, the Bruins scored three unanswered in the last two minutes to win this game thanks to Zabir Khannat and Aziz Patel.

Jets defeat Nordiques 6-5 SO

The Jets and Nordiques faced off next in a solid all around game. The only goal scored in the first came from the Jets courtesy of Shoaib Rangrez. Both goaltenders Kaleem Mirza and Fayaz Kazi rose to the occasion and kept their teams in the game. The second period saw a pair of goals from Yusuf Ingar of the Jets, taking the 3-0 lead. With the score 4-1 in favour of the Jets with just 9 minutes left to play, all seemed lost for the Nords. Fortunately for them, GM Sufyaan Shaikh stepped it up leading a 4 goal attack with two of his own to lead the game 5-4. Not to be outdone, Rizwan Hassan of the Jets would tie it up and send this game to shootout with a goal at the 1:30 mark. Goalie Fayaz Kazi would get his team the win as young star Emad Mahmood would score the game winner. Jets win 6-5 in SO.

Falcons defeat Hawks 7-3

And the most entertaining game of the night went to the Hawks and Falcons who talked quite a bit priot to this game. The Falcons struck first with a goal from Sufyan Kazi, later met with an equalizer from Ricky Saili. Just before period end, Kazi would score his second to give the Falcons the 2-1 lead. Going into the second period, the Falcons held the upper hand as Farhan Saleh and Syed Ahmed scored key goals to maintain their hold on the lead. With goalie Mohammed AK holding strong in between the pipes, Sufyan Kazi would complete his hat trick as the Falcons win this one 7-3.

Week 1 Previews

Bruins Vs Sharks @ 8:45 pm

The Sharks and Bruins will play the first game of this season as they face off at 8:45. The Bruins will be looking to break through the heavy defence of the Sharks with Zabir Khanar and Rahman Rana leading the charge. It won't be easy as netminder Faizan Khanat will have the likes of Zahid Panchbhaya and Muzammil Khan backing him up. With all that being said and done, both teams display a sense of dedication that can see them hitting the net as soon as the ball drops.

Jets Vs Nordiques @ 9:45 pm

Next up the Nordiques and Jets will face off in a game that is sure to spark some flames. The Nordiques will be looking to make a strong statement first game and let the league know this is no team to be messed with. That being said, the Jets are equally as determined to start the season off on a strong note. Expect Shoaib Khan and Rizwan Hassan to get tangled up quite a bit as they muscle it out for the win.

Falcons Vs Hawks @ 10:45 pm

And the Falcons and Hawks will have the last game of the night. Fahim Limbada's squad will be putting the young Falcons team to the test with an assortment of firepower and perhaps a bit of trash talk. Do not count the Falcons out just yet though, as goalie Mohammed AK Patel along with veterans Syed Ahmed and Farhan Saleh have been known to turn the tide of games just like that.

WINTER 2016 TEAM PREVIEWS

The Falcons will be under the command of Zahid Patel, up and coming young star who's drafted Syed Ahmed and Farhan Saleh as his first two picks. To get a better sense of this team, the goalie will be Mohammed AK Patel who will be supported by the likes of Sufyaan Kazi and Umaar Panchbhaya. This team will no doubt be the black sheep among the crowd and they will have to work twice as hard to prove they are number one.

Sufyaan Shaikh of the Nordiques did not mess around when it came to building his team. With Shoaib Khan and Jason Gogna going in the first two rounds, this team is going to be all about offensive firepower. If you needed any more evidence of this statement, the next two picks were Nawaz Shaikh and Mohsin Mahida who are known to hit the net with all cylinders pumping. With Kaleem Mirza between the pipes, this team can expect opponents to take advantage of a weak defense and will need to plan accordingly.

The Jets will be managed by Navdeep Virdi this season and has drafted a team unlike any other. Not reflective of his defense first mentality, picks one and two went to Yusuf Ingar and Rizwan Hassan. Surprise move in net as Fayaz Kazi will be coming out of retirement with Virdi betting this will be his sleeper pick. Some new additions to the league this season as well will see the likes of Ihtisham Qureshi and Emad Mahmood who will either make or break this team.

The Sharks under Faizan Kazi present a great balance of offensive firepower and defensive durability. Kazi has opted to take Musa Bhoola and Shahzad Rana as his first two picks, and they alone are enough to carry this team. Lucky for them, they have the added benefit of Faizan Khanat as goalie and will have no worries on that end. The challenge for this team will perhaps be the meshing of raw talent with a Sharks system that will churn out the Ws.

The Bruins under leadership of Faisal Limbada have opted for youth vigor over elder experience. With Zabir Khanat and Rahman Rana going 1st and 2nd, there is definitely a mindset present here that wants to outwork the opponent. With Afzal Vepari manning the net, there is no doubt this team will have a solid defensive foundation to work with. The question arises, however, as to whether or not they will have the muscle to tough it out over the season.

The Hawks under leadership of Fahim Limbada poses absolutely no surprises in the team's draft order. With Abdul Manjra and Ricky Saili going as picks 1 and 2, the hard hitting point getting Hawks are back. Nadir Ahmed will be in charge of netminding while Abu and Huzaifa Patel will be cleaning up any defensive spillovers. Expect big plays and a greater dependency on Mohammed Kazi as the season winds up.
