WEEK 2 RESULTS
Kings defeat Sharks 8-7 SO
After a two week hiatus the MMGL came roaring back with yet another set of one-goal games. Talk about bringing the entertainment! First up we had the Kings (0-1-0) going up against the Sharks (1-0-0). The Sharks were the favoured team going into this game, and were quick to get on the scoreboard with Haran Karunakaran putting his team up 1-0 two minutes in. Each team went back and forth trading goals, with the Sharks building a nice two goal cushion at the end of the first period, 5-3. The Kings were fortunate to have GM Abdul Manjra return, and he was quick to get in a goal of his own to share the scoring responsibility. The second period is where things got interesting. The Kings' Abdul Manjra got a nice short-handed goal on a Jason Gogna tripping penalty to bring his team within one. Jason returned the favour a minute later to tie the game up at 5 a piece. The Sharks were playing an up-tempo game and Yusuf Ingar managed to get his team up 7-6. In a game where there was A LOT of crying for calls, the Sharks managed to get on the powerplay on an Abdul Manjra boarding call. It looked like this was it for the Kings, but the quick rocket shot of GM Jason Gogna off of a very costly Sharks turnover tied the game up at 7. On to the second SO of the season! All three shooters for the Sharks missed the chance to beat Stephen Corradino, while Kings' Abdul Manjra scored the lone goal past Mohamed Bashir to get his team the win.

Falcons defeat Nordiques 5-4
The game of the night was dubbed Family Feud and definitely lived up to its name. The Nordiques were itching for a win as they dropped their season opener in a SO to the Hawks. The Falcons opened up scoring on the Nordiques with a goal from Abraham Iqbal, only to have Shoaib Khan score one of his own off his patented long-range shot. In the dying minutes of the first, Asif Saleh was called for tripping and the Nordiques aimed to take advantage. As lady luck would have it, a bad pass and some sloppy communication forced a turnover on which Falcons' GM Shoaib Rangrez capitalized and scored the shorthanded wrister. Falcons up 2-1 going into the second. With a minute thirty still left on the powerplay, it was none other than Shoaib Khan to score his second of the night off a pass from Faiz Vaid. The Falcons' Abraham Iqbal scored twice in a row to complete the hat trick and put his team up 4-2 with 8 minutes to go. Shoaib Khan would once again reply to complete his own hat trick and bring his team within one. With some well-timed timeouts, both teams managed to keep the legs fresh and strategize effectively. The Nordiques' game plan all game seemed to be built around GM Shoaib Khan, and the Falcons' played a defensive game built on stopping Khan. In the end with 9 seconds left, an amazing spin around goal from Shoaib Khan still wasn't enough to get his team the win. Nordiques drop to 0-1-1 on the season, and the Falcons are the first team this season to go 2-0-0.

Jets defeat Hawks 6-5 SO
The final game highlighted the Hawks and the Jets. You could tell instantly the Jets were itching to get a move on with their season. Ten minutes into the game it was none other than dynamic scorer Ricky Saili to put his team up on the board. Tit for tat, Hawks' Navaz Shaikh evened the score with a pass from Adil Patel. The Jets, fuelled by determination and the confidence of their goalie Yasir Hussain, put on another two goals, courtesy of the new dynamic duo Ricky Saili and Deepak Bhangu. Not to be defeated so easily, the Hawks tied it up at 3 goals apiece with some slick passing by Navaz Shaikh. Both teams traded goals back and forth, with Adil Patel finishing the night wih his first hat trick of the season, keeping his team in the final minute of play to tie it up at 5. And here we go again to another shootout! Folks this shootout went five rounds scoreless for the Hawks, with Yasir Hussain holding it down for the Jets. In the fifth round of this scoreless shootout get hero was Deepinder Brar who squeaked one past Hussain Aswat to get his team to a 1-0-0 start to the season. Very heart racing game! Boy I love my job =D
