WEEK 10 SUMMARY

Malton Mavericks def Donlands Mighty Ducks: 4-3

The Ducks and Mavs played their hearts out as seeding was on the line. Malton needed the win while the Ducks wanted to stay out of the bottom 4. Malton looked to be in control as they jumped out to a 3 nothing lead on a couple of goals by Aadil Patel and Divesh Sharma. But the Ducks came out hunting themselves as they had a fantastic 2nd period tying the game on a couple of goals by Naeem Bakharia and Mohamed Duale who also had 2 assists. Both teams started to play harder as it was pretty much a new game and Malton looked confused. But a harmless rush with just 28 seconds to go ended up in the Ducks net as Chanpreet Sandhu who has been a bright light on this Mavs squad finished a give and go for the gamewinner and with that, 1st place in the Makkah division.

WEEK 10 PREVIEW

8pm - Malton Mavericks(7-2-1) vs Donlands Mighty Ducks(3-6-2)

The Mavericks sit a top the standings and a win or tie will secure the overall number one seed throughout the playoffs but they will have to fight off those pesky Ducks who gave Malton a fit the first time they met as the Mavs shut them out 2-0. The Ducks can finish no better then 5th place but their main concern will be not getting blown out by the Mavs as such a result could have a lasting effect going into the playoffs. Aside from finishing first Malton has a few internal batlles to work out as Adil Patel, Shoaib Rangrez and Divesh Sharma are separated by only a point for the Art Ross trophy race. Divesh and Adil are also battling it out for the Maurice Richard trophy which should provide for some entertainment.

Also returning to Mavericks will be Rizwan Hassan and Yassir Habib.  Their defensive unit will be led by the Khans, Seedat’s and the Zubair’s.  Riaz Parekh will be returning for his 4th season between the pipes, looking to backstop the Mavericks to another finals appearance.

WEEK 8 SUMMARY

Malton Mavericks def Markham Jrs: 3-2

This was a game to watch as it was pretty much the battle for 2nd place. Both Malton and Markham have worked admirable all season to come to this point being able to rack up the wins to keep pace with one another. So this game was big for each squad to be able to find solace as to where they stand going into the playoffs. Just 19 seconds in however, the prodigal son Divesh Sharma continues his hot hand with the opening marker, but Markham finds a way to beat goaltender Ridwaan Khanjee twice on goals by Mohammed Patel and Mustaqeem Khan to go up 2-1. Both teams had great chances to score the weaponry Adil Patel possesses on the blueline was unleashed as he tied the game with 3 seconds to go in the 1st. Both teams battled hard and Aadil Kadva was relentless in his own zone fearlessly blocking shots. But Sharma once again was called upon and he buried the winner past Safwaan Umarwadia who had a great game up to that point. Markham created chances for themselves, but Khanjee shut the door and Malton won the bragging rights on this day.

WEEK 8 PREVIEW

5pm Malton Mavericks(6-1) vs Markham Jrs(6-1)

Not sure if both teams realize whats at stake here but this game will most likely determine 2nd place and a bye to the semis and also a real good shot at first place. Both teams have one loss courtesy of the Blue Eagles and that is pretty much the only blemish on a very solid season by both clubs. Markham has to be extremely happy with the development of their youths in Nabil Abdul-Lateef and Umer-Farooq Patel who have contributed in the scoring department with a combined 7 goals which has addedd a lethal second line to the Markham attack which Malton will have to take note and not get surprised by. Markham has to be aware of the tandem of Divesh Sharma and Gopi Johal who are a main reason the Mavericks are one of the top teams as they too have also added a potent second line combining for 10 goals. One of the marquee match-ups in this game is between two Adil's in Patel and Kadva. Both are very similar as they lead their team in scoring and at times have played both defense and forward. They can handle the pressure in the crunch and the only difference would be that Kadva is vey vocal and leads with his play while Patel chooses to lead with his play only which also works. In the end it will probably be the game of the night and when the dust settles the question will be who will be left standing?.

WEEK 7 SUMMARY

Malton Mavericks def Hitmen: 5-2

The new look Hitmen were riding high off a win the previous week but they knew they would be in tough against a determined and refined Malton hockey club. If the Hitmen had any enthusiasm going into this game, that all went out the window as Divesh Sharma made his return after a shoulder separation injury to the Malton lineup. And there was no rust at all to his game. Sharma was effective with his 2-goal 1 assist performance and his play took the pressure off Adil Patel . Zahid Panchbaya and Shoaib Rangrez also enjoyed mutiple point nights with a 1-goal 1-assist outing for each. Adil still got into the act with his 2 assist night while fill-in Ridwaan Khanjee turned away 16 shots for the win. The Hitmen tried to keep it close on goals by Shiraz Hameed and Afzal Siddiqui, but Malton buzzed a little too much and when Hitmen were close, Khanjee shut the door.

WEEK 7 PREVIEW

5pm Hitmen(1-5-1) vs Malton Mavericks(5-1)

The Hitmen notched their first victory of the season last week and have a chance at two straight wins this week against the Mavericks. Some of you may think I'm crazy for saying the Hitmen have a chance at winning but they have been known to play tough against Malton in the past. This time around the Hitmen have a new crop leading the charge in Safwan Mohtat, Yasir Sami, Abdullah Javed and Talha Patel who have been putting up points and they will hope to add to their totals against an older Mavericks defense that suprisingly have held their own this season and might be due for a let down. If the defense does have a lapse it shouldn't be too much for them to overcome they are loaded in the scoring department that includes the likes of Mohammed Bilal, Shoaib Rangrez and Rizwan Hassan who each only have one goal a piece on the season. One can only imagine what this team can do when this trio gets going.

WEEK 6 SUMMARY

Malton Mavericks def ML Predators: 5-0

The Malton Mavericks need to keep making statements to each team in the league that they are a force to be reckoned with and this win was pretty much that type of statement. The ML Predators are able to run with the best of them, but on this night, the Mavericks just were too much. 4 different players on the Mavs had multiple-point nights with Gopi Johal with a 4-point night, Mohammed Bilal with 3 points and Rizwan Hassan & Chanpreet Sandhu with deuces. Adil Patel also tallied a goal for his 5th of the season leading all d-men in Makkah. Riaz Parekh was his dominant self turning away 17 shots for his 3rd shutout of the season tied for the lead. The Predators scoring has taken quite a tumble and they need to address that come next week as they face the lowly Palace Bandits.

WEEK 6 PREVIEW

5pm - ML Predators(2-3) vs Malton Mavericks(4-1)

If the ML Predators are to grow and learn this season, they need to start doing it now as their star veteran Samir Patel won't be available for an extended amount of time. They will now be without their number one pivot and go-to guy and will have to rely on their own instincts and young energy to find a way to be successful for the long haul from here on in. The broad shoulders of Arshad Sufi, Abdul Wahab Khawaja and goalie Zakariya Chauhan have just gotten broader as their responsibilities will not only increase but also magnified. And a big test is to come this weekend against a formidable squad in the Malton Mavericks. The Mavs have that perfect combination of veteran and youth mix which has kept them close to the top of the standings neck in neck with Markham and the Blue Eagles. The Preds need to come out firing from the gate or else the Mavs with their powerful goaltending and blueline corps could take advantage of the young and inexperienced opponents.

 WEEK 5 SUMMARY

Malton Mavericks def Donlands Mighty Ducks: 2-0

The Mavs of Malton are another team trying to keep pace with the leaders up top the Makkah divsiion and games like this are a true test of their gumption and determination to get that done. The Mavericks seem to have an arsenal of goaltending prowess deep in their organization as they plucked another no-name gem in Ridwaan Khanjee who stopped 16 ducks shot enroute to a 2-0 shutout in his first MHL start. Zubair Amla and Shoaib Khan with his 2-point performance got the job done with goals in the first to pretty much seal the deal. The Ducks tried desperately in the 2nd to get one by the rookie goalie, but Malton's defence lead by Yasser Habib and Zubair Patel were one of the main reasons Donlands couldnt get any offence going. With the loss, the Ducks now hold the 6th spot in the Makkah division at the mid-point of the season.

WEEK 5 PREVIEW

7pm - Malton Mavericks vs Donlands Mighty Ducks

Malton didnt succeed in downing the Blue Eagles last week, actually they got manhandled by them so they will definitely come out strong against a .500 hockey club in the Mighty Ducks. Both teams have not scored a lot of goals this season and their defence has not been as good allowing a combined 27 goals. With the loss of Divesh Sharma for probably the rest of the season, Adil Patel and Shoaib Rangrez mus continue their torrid scoring pace if the Mavs are to keep pace near the top of the standings. The Ducks however aren't a flash and dash team and have a good concept in keeping balanced scoring among their roster. 14 different players have at least one point and rookie Khalid Rashidi who has very minimal ball hockey experience notched his first of his career just last week which shows the Ducks ability to trust all of their lines in providing offence. They will have to find ways to limiting the Maverick stars' Rangrez and Adil's movements and get goalie Riaz Parekh off his game if they are to climb up the standings at equal footing with their opponents.

WEEK 4 SUMMARY

Blue Eagles def Malton Mavericks: 4-0

One of the newest rivalries went head to head and it was a very entertaining affair as AR Manjra and crew who defected from the Mavs had a lot to prove. Some notable Tier 1 players were involved as well in Nomi Choudhry, Mohammed Bilal and Shahraiz Khan which pitted him against his brother Shaukat Khan. Both teams were flying and doing some hard hitting trying to get the advantage. However, the Eagles won this game and pulled away just in the 1st period ripping 4 goals past Riaz Parekh who was playing is 2nd game in a row. Shaukat, Muhsin Bangi, Shuaib Bulbulia and Sahib Gill got the job done and Malton's night was over. Adil Patel was buzzing but the Eagles D kept him check. Yusuf Ingar played his heart out giving the Mavs players fits and also drawing penalties. The rivalry looked heated at times but the win was on everyones mind and the Eagles achieved that tonite.

WEEK 4 PREVIEW

7pm - Blue Eagles(3-0) vs Malton Mavericks(3-0)

The match that everyone is talking about with both western teams going head to head with perfect records on the line and bragging rights. Both were at near defeat last week but were able to pull out the wins late which is a mark of good teams.  Divesh Sharma and Adil Patel lead the attack for the Mavericks with 4 goals each and Sahib Gill responds for Mavericks with 3 goals on the season. Defense will be the difference in this game as both teams had a bit of a lapse last week. The Blue Eagles have only allowed 3 goals on the season and 2 of them came last week while the Mavericks have allowed 4 goals all season and all of the came last week.  Both defenses must be strong from the start as trying to comeback against one another will not be easy as the week before.

WEEK 3 SUMMARY

Malton Mavericks def Donlands Midnight Ryderz 5-4

Both the Mavericks and Ryderz took to the floor but it seemed as if only one team was playing in the first. The Mavericks did manage two goals but the story was the play of the Ryderz as they beat the Mavs to every possession resulting in 4 goals and some of them pretty by Junayed Malek, Ibrahim Desai and two by Rizwan Desai as the Ryderz stunned the Mavs leading by two going into the half. The Ryderz would have to continue their style from the first but the young team figured it would be better to play strictly defensive but by doing so racked up 6 penalties in the 2nd period alone that would spell the demise of the Ryderz as their special teams pulled off three unanswered goals by Adil Patel shorthanded and power play goals from Divesh Sharma and the game winner from Syed Ahmed with just over a minute to play. Riaz Parekh shut the door in the second as the Mavericks didn't allow any upsets on this night holding on for the 5-4 victory.

WEEK 3 PREVIEW

7pm: Malton Mavericks (2-0) vs Donlands Midnight Ryderz (1-1)

An exciting matchup in Tier 2 between 2 teams that have the speed and scoring prowess going head to head. The Mavericks and Ryderz possess almost the same style of offence and defence. But the biggest difference is in the goaltending. Riaz Parekh has collected doughnuts in both his outings thus far and will most likely set an MHL record for string of shutouts of he does the deed once again. The Ryderz however are a relentless group that loves to buzz in the offensive zone and cause havoc in front of the net so Parekh will definitely be seeing a lot of red come Saturday night. The Mavs are an offensive juggernaut with their 10 goals for so far with 3 of their players in the top 5 scoring as Aadil Patel, Divesh Sharma and Shoaib Rangrez have 4 apiece.
