WEEK 3 SUMMARY
Malton Mavericks def Donlands Midnight Ryderz 5-4
Both the Mavericks and Ryderz took to the floor but it seemed as if only one team was playing in the first. The Mavericks did manage two goals but the story was the play of the Ryderz as they beat the Mavs to every possession resulting in 4 goals and some of them pretty by Junayed Malek, Ibrahim Desai and two by Rizwan Desai as the Ryderz stunned the Mavs leading by two going into the half. The Ryderz would have to continue their style from the first but the young team figured it would be better to play strictly defensive but by doing so racked up 6 penalties in the 2nd period alone that would spell the demise of the Ryderz as their special teams pulled off three unanswered goals by Adil Patel shorthanded and power play goals from Divesh Sharma and the game winner from Syed Ahmed with just over a minute to play. Riaz Parekh shut the door in the second as the Mavericks didn't allow any upsets on this night holding on for the 5-4 victory.
WEEK 3 PREVIEW
7pm: Malton Mavericks (2-0) vs Donlands Midnight Ryderz (1-1)
An exciting matchup in Tier 2 between 2 teams that have the speed and scoring prowess going head to head. The Mavericks and Ryderz possess almost the same style of offence and defence. But the biggest difference is in the goaltending. Riaz Parekh has collected doughnuts in both his outings thus far and will most likely set an MHL record for string of shutouts of he does the deed once again. The Ryderz however are a relentless group that loves to buzz in the offensive zone and cause havoc in front of the net so Parekh will definitely be seeing a lot of red come Saturday night. The Mavs are an offensive juggernaut with their 10 goals for so far with 3 of their players in the top 5 scoring as Aadil Patel, Divesh Sharma and Shoaib Rangrez have 4 apiece.
WEEK 2 SUMMARY
Malton Mavericks def T-Park Jrs: 2-0
The Mavs introduced us to their new duds and also Rizwan Hassan made his return as well. The problem was, no one played this game with that sense of rejuvenation. Don't let the score fool you, this game was all Tpark. They outhussled, out ran and were just sparks of energy. Their biggest problem was the play of goalie Riaz Parekh who stopped 16 tough shots enroute to a 2-zip shutout, his 2nd in as many games out of the gate. Shoaib Khan scored just 2mins in, but Tpark took over. Young star Yusuf Memon seems to have a ball on a string as he made some eye-popping dangles but couldn't beat Parekh. With under a minute left however, Adil Patel did what he does best, fire a one timer off the faceoff to give his team insurance and eventually the win.
WEEK 2 PREVIEW
5pm - Malton Mavericks(1-0) vs T-Park Jrs(1-0)
The Mavs are coming off a dominating performance last week to start the season but that could also be a bad thing if they are expecting the same outcome week in and week out. They go up against the T-Park Jrs who narrowly escaped with the victory via the shoot-out but nonetheless they do possess one of the top goaltending talent in the league in Irfan Vawda. Its not clear whether the Juniors expect to ride on his back all season but one of the brothering groups(khans and Jogiyats) will have to provide something this week against the likes of Shoaib Rangrez, Divesh Sharma and Adil Patel as each had 3 pts or more last week. Maybe T-Park might need to focus on playing even a tighter defensive game this week as the Mavs had 7 different scorers in week 1.
WEEK 1
Malton Mavericks def Palace Bandits: 8-0
Youngster Mohammed Docrat is learning the hard way in managing a team. Just a couple of days before the season began, non-committal letters were coming through from some of his players having him scramble at the last minute to fill out his roster. The Mavs on the other hand have tweaked their lineup somewhat and it worked out for the better as they went on a scoring spree allowing the game to go run-time. 9 different players scored a point or more with Divesh Sharma being the star with his 4-point performance. A good way to start off the season but the Mavs may need to forget about this one as other opponents will certainly be tougher. The Bandits will have to find ways of salvaging this season with a solid outing come next week.
